ITALY

Our Airbnb in Florence. There was also a kitchen, but this was the bedroom.
The view from our rooms in Florence

Bridge over the Arno River in Florence. The Ponte Vecchio.

We went to the David Museum and saw Michaelangelo's statue of David. I just read The Agony and the Ecstasy, so was anxious to see his work.

The ceiling of the Duomo in Florence. It's demons and such, illustrating Dante's Inferno.
Our first evening in Florence it was raining a bit, so the streets looked really pretty.

Another statue by Michaelangelo

The Medusa. We knew Stella would like it .

The inside of our Airbnb in Vernazza. It was the same one my friend and her daughter stayed in last summer.

Cinque Terre means Five Cities, and the rest of these pictures are from one or the other of them. We stayed in Vernazza, which was the prettiest, but some of the views of the ocean from the other cities were pretty magnificent.

View from our Airbnb in Torre Pellice, the area where Charles' ancestors are from

The apartment we stayed in was really nice. It had the old furniture from the owner's grandparents, who used to live there.

This was a main street near where we stayed.

Church in Torino, which was the closest ward to Torre Pellice

These are all places where the Waldensian ancestors lived up in the mountains.

The old buildings all had slate roofs.

We actually saw a woman and a dog herding sheep.

A street in Torre Pellice

The Waldensian Church nearby where the woman who rented to us played the organ. She had a key, so took Charles in for a tour.

A view from the mountains (The Alps), where we drove around looking at family history sights.

Our Airbnb in Rome. It had three rooms and you could see the Colosseum from the front door.

We had a regular kitchen here (small by our standards) and a small washer. Italians just hang their clothes on a line out the window to dry. I don't think anyone has a clothes dryer.

This was the view from the little balcony outside the kitchen.

The Pieta in St. Peter's Basilica- Michaelangelo
The Sistine Chapel was really amazing, but we weren't allowed to take any pictures.

Lake Tahoe with Family

The whole family except for Megan and the Ellsworths. Jake, Jacob, and Lexi only joined us for one evening, but they picked up Abby and Tessa from the airport and brought them up. They stayed for the blessings of Dylan and Hayden.

Charles, Barbara and Hayden after her blessing.

Joey is just a big boy! Still loves his dad's attention and lovins.

Joey's family after Hayden's blessing. It was so nice to be able to do this with family together.
The cousins loved playing at the beach together.

The cousins like to go wild in the "bunk room" where they could all play together.
 Dylan, Stella, Bella
The kids table- Evan, Stella (who always wanted to be by Evan), Sophie, Jackson, Daniel, Scarlett

Jackson loves to catch animals, so when Daniel spotted this little frog, he snatched it up

Joey was in charge of renting a boat, where we took turns going out on the lake. Tessa loved it, except for the life jacket, which was a little big.
 Tessa and Dylan
Carly and I each bought one of these little boats at Ross. Joey bought the paddles, and we had fun paddling around in them.

I got to play with the little girls in the shade, and loved spending time with them
Jackson and Bella really enjoyed playing together
Jesse and Sarita brought this inflatable kayak, which was a big hit! They even let Evan take Stella out in it. Since the current came towards the shore, it was pretty safe because they couldn't get too far out.
