They were out of charcoal, so Joey got to use his hatchet to chop firewood!

Jackson was Sully, from Monster University and his friend, Jack, was Max, the Wild Thing for the ward Halloween Party.

Katie made her clever costume. 

Joey had a beard part of the time I was there. He and I took Annie on walks every night and I walked her in the mornings. I'm starting to like dogs a little more, but she still isn't a grand-dog!

I took Jackson to the pet store and he got to see animals and hold a baby guinea pig. Kids this age can be easily entertained! The favorite entertainment at home was when Katie and/or Joey and I would play pretend games with him, scaring him in the dark and rescuing him from witches and ghosts. He also likes to "help" Katie in the kitchen. He may grow up liking to cook!

Rhode Island

We left New York from Grand Central Station on this train, headed for New Haven Connecticut, where we rented a car and drove the rest of the way to RI. We had a pretty nice view from the train and it was a fun way to travel part of the way there. 

Our first night in Warwick, Jesse and Sarita took us to see the Pumpkin Spectacular at the Roger Williams Zoo in Providence. There were thousands of pumpkins! These are just a few examples.

The next day they took us to a cider mill near Mystic, Conn. It was interesting to see how it's made. We bought some cider, a pie, and a caramel apple we thought we'd eat there, but applebees must be a real thing, because they came at us viciously, so we had to leave and go elsewhere!

We had our apple treats at this cemetery instead. The leaves were turning colors, although not as vibrant as they will get.

We drove from there over to the town of Mystic where this drawbridge is kind of in the middle of town. We got to see it in action. Apparently, Mystic Pizza is a famous movie from the 80's or so, with Julia Roberts in it, so we ate there. They keep the movie going all the time for patrons' entertainment and the pizza really was good.

Jesse and Sarita have recently become temple ordinance workers in the Boston Temple and the Saturday we were there was their first full day of service. We went with them and attended a session and then left to go see some sights while they finished their shift.

One of the places we went was Harvard Square, which is adjacent to the university. We also wandered around the campus a bit. It was drizzly that day, so not many street vendors or entertainers were out, but it was very interesting to see a place we'd heard so much about.

The pews are like little rooms. According to the sign, families used to actually buy a pew and owned it through the generations. They could decorate it as they pleased.

We went to see Bunker Hill, which is literally a "hill", and not a very big one. This monument was built in the 1800's to honor soldiers from the battle fought there.

The sign indicates that Bunker Hill is closed due to the government shutdown, but it didn't deter anyone from going up to see the monument anyway!

They fed us lobster, which I'm sure is a wonderful delicacy to most people. Jesse enjoyed eating this one! 

Since we like to ride bikes, Jesse thought we'd enjoy this ride in Cape Cod. It was really fun!

Part of the trail didn't have an ocean view, but it was still pretty.

We went out to the Beavertail Lighthouse for a picnic after church.

A seagull joined us for lunch and we got to watch it swallow a fish head whole! We didn't know a seagull could do that. It was kind of like watching a snake swallow a mouse.

We'll miss these two! They were very gracious hosts and we love them.
