I thought it would be fun to spend a day with our oldest grand child, doing something a little different than the usual. So I picked Kelsey up in the morning and we went out to the beach. This was a bit of a stretch for me because I've only made this drive on my own a very few times! We first went out to lunch at BJ's, then drove to Bolsa Chica State Beach. I knew Huntington would be really crowded because of the surfing competition going on, so we parked the van and rode our bikes to Huntington. It was an interesting crowd consisting mostly of scantily clad teenagers and young adults who were mostly watching each other rather than the surfing!

The bike ride was fun with a beautiful view of the ocean. We came close to getting run down by a rowdy group of riders coming the other direction at one point though. I guess they didn't see the sign that said "10 mph maximum!"

We walked out bikes out to the end of the pier and back. It was crowded, but only at the end closest to the shore. After that, we went to Sunset Beach, the exact spot where the kids were on their boogie boards when the Ellsworth's joined us. The water temperature was in the 50's and air temperature in the 60's, but we were determined to go out and have a good time. Kelsey was a little braver than me about going in, but once we got in it was great. I've never really tried it before, but we both agree now that it's our favorite sport with bike riding a close second!

Granny and Kelsey time! It's good to build dendrites now and then by trying something new. Glad it was a success!
Looks like fun.
