RHODE ISLAND

Our first day on the East Coast, we drove up to Boston, which is about an hour away and took a couple of tours. This is Boston Common.

Here we are at a cemetery where many of the founding fathers are buried. The big one in the background is for Benjamin Franklin's parents.

We went on a tour of the city and St. Charles River in this weird amphibious vehicle that was used during WW II.They call it a Duck Tour.

Jesse took some time off Thursday and Friday to show us around. We started on the Cliff Walk from this beach. The path was back behind us and overlooked the ocean and also viewed the backs of some of the Newport Mansions.

There were lots of lighthouses around the area. Rhode Island is very scenic and beautiful!

The men decided to descend below the rope barrier, but I stayed above and took their picture!

We visited Fort Adams, the largest coastal fortification in the U.S. We didn't take a tour, but got to look around a bit.

We bought some live lobsters in Newport, and brought them home where Jesse threw them in a pot of boiling water. They didn't really scream or anything but it was still horrifying and traumatic (for them), I'm sure. It was sort of horrifying for me too!

I got to sit across from this one and see its beady little eyes staring at me as its body was being devoured.

Friday we went to Block Island , a very beautiful and scenic attraction in Rhode Island. We got to have Sarita with us that day too. It's about an hour long ferry boat ride to get there.

We rented some bikes and toured the island by pedal power. I thought that was the most fun thing we did together.

We got these gigantic hamburgers for lunch. The black bean burger was even bigger than the chicken sandwiches.

This one beach had tons of these little rock piles. We made a few more while we were there.

We enjoyed going to the Boston Temple together on our anniversary.

Jesse and Sarita took us to Providence for the WaterFire festival, which brings a ton of people downtown. Sarita takes art classes in a building that's part of RSDI, right across from this canal.

This is the state capital building, also downtown Providence.

I'm including this drawing of Sarita's because it is so amazing! She needed to draw a toy for her class, and Sunday night this was in the early stages. She sent me this final picture yesterday afternoon. It's Jesse's teddy bear from when he was little, drawn freehand in charcoal. It looks exactly like the real thing.
